African Safari Honeymoon

A honeymoon safari pairs private game viewing with barefoot beaches, planned as one journey.

Overview

An African honeymoon is hard to beat for romance — private guides, candle-lit dinners under the stars, and the easy combination of a thrilling safari with a barefoot-luxury beach. For a worked example, see the 11-day Tanzania & Zanzibar honeymoon, day by day.

We design every detail around the two of you, from sundowners overlooking the plains to a private plunge pool on the Indian Ocean. For complete seclusion, we also arrange private villas and sole-use camps. Two honeymoon shapes to begin from: wild-then-barefoot Tanzania and the Mara-to-Seychelles route.

Know before you go

The practical details we handle for you — flights, entry, health and money — summarized here so nothing surprises you. Requirements can change, so we confirm everything when you book.

01
Getting there from the USA

East Africa connects via European or Gulf hubs to Nairobi, Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar; South Africa has 15–16-hour nonstops from Newark and Atlanta. We route the whole journey door to door.

02
Visas & entry

Kenya needs an eTA (~$30), Tanzania a $100 multiple-entry e-visa for US citizens; South Africa and Botswana are visa-free — though South Africa now requires a quick online SARS Traveler Declaration before flying (from July 2026). We send a checklist with exact steps once your route is set.

03
Health

Safari regions are generally malaria areas (prophylaxis advised); the Seychelles and Mauritius are malaria-free — a gentle way to end the trip.

04
Money & tipping

Everything is pre-paid and bespoke, so honeymooners carry little cash. Tipping is at your discretion — around $20–25 per guest per day for guides.

When to go

Best time for a safari honeymoon

Jun–Oct

Dry safari season paired with prime Indian Ocean beach weather.

Jan–Feb

Warm, clear and romantic across East Africa and the islands.

Quieter seasons, considered

In the green months rates ease at many of these camps, the plains empty of vehicles and the light turns dramatic. What each season gives, and what it trades, is set out in our Safari Planning Guide.

Planning & cost

Safari cost

Fully tailor-made — priced privately to your camps, season and travel style. No fixed packages.

How we travel

Every journey is privately designed, with private guides and vehicles arranged where specified, the finest lodges, and a specialist on call throughout. At fly-in camps, game drives may be shared unless a private vehicle is reserved.

answered before you ask

The practical details that apply to every safari we plan — so this page is the only one you need.

Money & tipping

US dollars and cards cover nearly everything, and tips are the only real cash need — exact amounts and etiquette are in our Safari Planning Guide.

Health & safety

See a travel clinic 6–8 weeks before departure for routine shots and malaria advice (most safari regions require prophylaxis; parts of South Africa are malaria-free). Camps are remote but professionally run, with radio contact and evacuation cover — we require travel insurance that includes emergency medical evacuation.

Staying connected

Connected in camp, gloriously offline on the drives — the full connectivity picture is in our Safari Planning Guide.

What to pack

Soft duffel bags only (light aircraft cap luggage around 33 lb / 15 kg), neutral-colored layers for cold mornings and warm afternoons, and binoculars. Laundry is included at almost every camp, so pack for 4–5 days no matter the trip length.

Honeymoon & Romance FAQs

A classic is a Kenya or Tanzania safari followed by Zanzibar or the Seychelles — thrilling wildlife followed by total relaxation on the beach.

June to October combines dry safari season with excellent beach weather; January–February is warm, clear and romantic across East Africa and the islands.

Of course — private bush dinners, star beds, sundowners and surprise celebrations are all part of how we design a honeymoon.
