There is no honeymoon quite like a safari: golden-light game drives, private dinners under a canopy of stars, a plunge pool overlooking a waterhole, and the deep quiet of the wild shared with the one you love. It is romance and adventure in equal measure. Here is how to plan it.
What makes a safari so romantic
The intimacy is built in. Many luxury camps have just a handful of tents, so you feel wonderfully alone in vast wilderness. Expect private decks and plunge pools, candlelit bush dinners, sundowners on a remote ridge, and the kind of unhurried time together that everyday life never allows. A private guide and vehicle make every drive your own.
Where to go
The most romantic regions combine spectacular wildlife with seclusion and style.
- —Botswana’s Okavango Delta — water, exclusivity and barefoot elegance
- —Tanzania’s Serengeti — drama, scale and the Great Migration
- —South Africa’s private reserves — superb Big Five with easy logistics
- —Kenya’s Maasai Mara conservancies — big cats and starlit nights
Add a beach
The classic safari honeymoon ends on the sand. Pair a few nights in the bush with the Indian Ocean — Zanzibar, the Seychelles, Mozambique or Mauritius — for total decompression. We usually suggest six to eight nights on safari and three to five on the beach.
Honeymoon touches
Let your camps know you are celebrating — many add thoughtful extras, from a private dinner to a sunrise champagne breakfast in the bush. We can also build in a hot-air balloon safari, a spa day or a particularly romantic suite as a one-off splurge to mark the occasion.
Tell us you are celebrating — camps add thoughtful honeymoon touches.
