Day by day

The 10 day Namibia safari itinerary, day by day

A 10 day Namibia safari itinerary flown by light aircraft — the red dunes of Sossusvlei at dawn, desert elephants on the Skeleton Coast, and Etosha’s waterholes at sunset.

Nothing here is fixed — this is the shape we design most often. Tell us what to keep, stretch or swap, and your version arrives priced and complete.

Best time to go

May–September for cool, clear desert days; the dunes are extraordinary in any month, and February–April can bring green desert after rain.

US travelers: check current entry requirements for each country on travel.state.gov — we also walk you through visas at booking.

Day 1

Windhoek

Arrive and overnight in the capital — a gentle start, and a briefing on the flying circuit ahead.

Days 2–4

Sossusvlei & NamibRand

Light aircraft south to the dune sea. Dawn at Sossusvlei and Deadvlei before the heat, sundowners on the gravel plains, and some of the darkest night skies in the world.

Days 5–7

Damaraland & the Skeleton Coast

North to Kaokoland to track desert-adapted elephant and lion along dry riverbeds, with a flight over the shipwreck coast and its seal colonies.

Days 8–9

Etosha

The great white pan, where rhino, elephant and lion come to the waterholes — you sit still and let Africa walk to you.

Day 10

Home

Fly Windhoek to Johannesburg for onward connections.

Questions about this journey

It is a magnificent first trip if landscape moves you as much as wildlife — but Etosha aside, this is desert, not the Serengeti. First-timers who want dense game usually pair Namibia with Botswana, or choose East Africa and save Namibia for a second journey.

Flying, for a ten-day trip. The distances are enormous and light aircraft turn two-day drives into forty-minute hops with the country laid out beneath you. Self-drive suits three weeks and a taste for gravel roads.

Colder than people expect. Dawn at Sossusvlei sits near 48°F (9°C) in winter and midday climbs to 84°F (29°C) — a proper jacket for the morning drive, then shirtsleeves by ten.
