Mchenja — the word for the ebony trees it hides beneath — curls around one of the Luangwa River’s most beautiful bends, mid-park, where hippos own the water and elephants cross at dusk. Five octagonal tents keep it intimate; open fronts keep the river in view from bed and bathtub alike.

This is the classic Luangwa rhythm: walk out at dawn in Norman Carr’s tradition, drive at night for leopard, and let the river run the hours in between.

Why book Time + Tide Mchenja through NndeeAfrika

You never pay more than booking direct — usually less. And everything around your stay is handled.

01

A better rate, more journey

As a trade partner we access preferred rates and seasonal offers the camp doesn’t always publish — you’ll never pay more than booking direct. And a camp can only sell you its own rooms; we build the journey around it: international flights, the right nights, and where you go next.

02

Door-to-door, no gaps

A private car waiting at the airport, flights timed to your route, and a meet-and-greet at every step. Book direct and the gaps become your problem; book with us and there are none.

03

We know this camp personally

We know how Mchenja’s mid-park position differs from Chinzombo’s southern polish — and when pairing the two gives you the whole valley in one week.

04

One call if anything changes

A missed flight, a weather delay, a change of heart mid-trip — you contact one person, and we re-arrange everything behind the scenes. The camp looks after you on property; we look after the whole journey.

Chinzombo is the design flagship with private pools; Mchenja is the classic five-tent river camp under the ebonies. The honest answer is both — three nights each covers the valley’s two personalities. Budget for one? We’ll match you to style.

Comfortably able to walk 3–5 km at a gentle pace with stops — the walks are about tracks, birds and behavior, not distance. Drives cover everything the walks don’t.
