Mwiba Lodge is built into the rocks above the Arugusinyai River, in a private reserve of springs, kopjes and acacia woodland on the southern edge of the Serengeti ecosystem. The reserve’s roughly 130,000 acres are traversed by no one else — which means walking safaris, night drives and off-road driving in country the national park cannot offer.
From roughly December to March the wildebeest calving season plays out across the nearby short-grass plains — one of the great wildlife spectacles in Africa — and Mwiba is one of the most comfortable ways to see it. The rest of the year, this is a place for privacy: rock-ledge dinners, spring-fed waterholes and a spa above the gorge.
When the southern Serengeti calving season is the goal, this private reserve of springs and granite kopjes is our first call — game-rich, and yours alone.
— Evance & JenniferYou never pay more than booking direct — usually less. And everything around the lodge is handled.
As a trade partner we access preferred rates and seasonal offers the lodge doesn’t always publish — you’ll never pay more than booking direct. And a lodge can only sell you its own beds; we build the journey around it: international flights, the right nights, and where you go next.
A private car waiting at the airport, light-aircraft hops timed to your route, and a guide who already knows your name. Book direct and the gaps between lodges become your problem; book with us and there are none.
We know when the calving herds actually reach the Mwiba side of the plains, which months the reserve is at its best, and how to pair it with the northern Serengeti — so your dates land you in the right place, not just a beautiful lodge.
A missed flight, a weather delay, a change of heart mid-trip — you contact one person, and we re-arrange everything behind the scenes. The lodge looks after you on property; we look after the whole journey.
Epic luxury safaris and just magical. I was referred by a friend in the USA — Evance customized our trip beautifully, the accommodation was first class and our guide so professional. Will definitely be back.
An exclusive-traversing reserve on the southern Serengeti ecosystem — no other lodges, no other vehicles.
From about December to March, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest drop their calves on the nearby short-grass plains — with the predators close behind.
Freedoms the national park forbids: tracking on foot with a guide, and spotlit night drives for leopard, genet and honey badger.
Stone, steel and canvas suspended over a river gorge — one of the most dramatic lodge settings in Tanzania.
The reserve borders lands of some of Tanzania’s oldest cultures; visits are arranged with long-standing community relationships.
December to March, when the southern plains hold the migration’s newborns — and the big cats that follow them.
A reserve the size of a small national park with a single lodge on it. If crowds are your worry, this is the answer.
Gorge-side suites, private dinners on the rocks and a spa — remote romance without roughing it.
A genuinely different Serengeti — springs and kopjes instead of open plains, and activities the park cannot offer.
December–March for the calving season on the southern plains; June–October for classic dry-season game viewing.
3 nights is ideal — enough for the reserve’s walks, night drives and a full day on the plains.
Pairs with a central or northern Serengeti camp: south for the calving, north for the river crossings.
Add a central or northern camp for the classic open plains and, in season, the Mara River crossings.
