LEARN MORE ABOUT ZIMBABWE

The Hwange National Park

The hangwe national park

The Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s biggest game reserve, covering a total area of 1.4 million hectares and providing visitors with a wide variety of ecosystems, plant life, and animal life. The park is home to a herd of buffalo and elephant, in addition to approximately one hundred distinct species of mammalian life, such as the black-backed jackal, bat-eared fox, baboon, porcupine, aardwolf, spotted hyena, caracal, leopard, African wildcat, lion, southern giraffe, hippo, warthog, and Burchell’s zebra, among others. The park is also home to a large number of plains game and antelope, which provides a plentiful supply of food for the park’s carnivores. White rhinoceroses were very recently reintroduced into Hwange National Park. In addition, the park is home to an outstanding variety of avian species, such as the red-billed spurfowl, the crimson-breasted shrike, the Kalahari scrub-robin, the cut-throat finch, the red-eyed bulbul, and the southern pied babbler.

The Mana Pools National Park

The Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe is situated on the middle reaches of the Zambezi River, and it provides visitors with breathtaking views of the river, floodplains, forest canopies, and the escarpment of the Rift Valley. The park has a total area of 2,000 square kilometers and is inaccessible by any means other than walking, therefore preserving its natural ecology. The park is well known for its four pools, which are the Main, Chine, Long, and Chisamuk pools. These pools are the remains of canals that have been dry for many years. The riverine forest extends all the way to the riverbanks and ponds, and enormous, ancient acacia trees create canopies that provide shade on the plants below. This region is the second World Heritage Site in Zimbabwe. It is famous for the vast populations of elephants, buffalo, hippos, and elands that can be seen here, especially during the dry season when the animals congregate along the river. The ana tree’s seed pods, which are packed with protein, offer critical nutrition for many different species. Additionally, the birdlife in this area is exceptional, especially the species that live in mopane woodlands and riverine areas.

Victoria Falls

The Victoria Falls, which are also known as “Mosi-oa-Tunya” in the local language, are the greatest curtain of falling water on the earth, with dimensions of 108 meters (354 feet) in height and 1,708 meters (5,604 feet) in breadth respectively. The falls are located on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, although tourists who visit either country may expect to have a comparable experience. The falls are located in an environment that is similar to that of a rainforest; there are dripping fig, palm, and mahogany trees that provide up-close views of the cascading water. In addition to that, visitors get the opportunity to see vervet monkeys, baboons, black eagles, and falcons soaring over them.

The water level in the canyon fluctuates throughout the year, but even at its lowest point, tourists are still able to see the whole rock face and may see all the way down to the bottom of the valley. It is also feasible, while the water levels are lower, to go white-water rafting in the tumultuous waters at the base of the falls. A meal on the Bushtracks Express, a steam train from the 1920s that has been rebuilt, transports guests through Victoria Falls National Park and across the Victoria Falls Bridge, which was constructed in 1905 by the British imperialist Cecil Rhodes.

On the other hand, tourists have the option of going on a sunset boat along the Zambezi River, during which they could see crocodiles, hippos, and elephants. Chobe National Park in Botswana is where you can go on a full-day safari, whereas Victoria Falls National Park in Zimbabwe is where you can see zebra, giraffe, buffalo, eland, and impala. Dr. David Livingstone, who was the first European to witness the falls, is credited as having claimed that his first reaction was that “scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight.” One further method to get a sense of the enormity of the falls is to fly over them and see them from above. Visitors may see the mist-filled crevice at the bottom of the falls by taking a helicopter ride that takes them above the Upper Zambezi River and up to the brink of the waterfalls.

Lake Kariba

Lake Kariba is the biggest man-made lake and reservoir in the world, and it can be found in Zimbabwe on the Zambezi River. After the construction of the Kariba Dam in 1958, the resulting lake has a length of over 140 miles and a width of over 20 miles. It was filled between 1958 and 1963.

The bed of the lake is rich in nutrients, which encourages the growth of a complex ecosystem that is home to a variety of animals such as crocodiles, elephants, hippopotamuses, and fish, as well as plentiful wildlife like fish eagles and cormorants. Visitors who are looking for a peaceful vacation from the commotion of city life may consider going to this lake because of the ambiance and the breathtaking views that can be seen there.
