The camp is situated on the Oloololo Escarpment, 300 meters above the plains of the Mara below. The name Angama Mara was inspired by the Swahili word for’suspended in mid-air’, ensuring the best seat in the house for all guests.

The 700-hectare site directly borders the Mara Triangle, offering 1.2km of Rift Valley frontage, forests, and game. The site’s rare beauty has an emotional effect on visitors, creating a dreamlike quality of being somewhere between heaven and earth. The romance of the setting, where scenes from Out of Africa were filmed, is instantly connected to guests.
